22 July 2011 (Doha, Qatar)- Qatar Railways Company (QRail) announced today the appointment of Eng. Saad Ahmed Ibrahim Al Mohannadi as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer. Eng. Al Mohannadi joins QRail as the company is ramping up operations in preparation for the Qatar Integrated Railways Project, which will incorporate a metro system, long-distance passenger travel, and freight transport.

I look forward to bringing my experience and expertise to the work ahead of Qatar Railways Company, in developing a new industry for Qatar under the wise leadership of His Highness the Emir of Qatar and the 2030 National Vision,” commented Eng. Al Mohannadi.

Eng. Al Mohannadi was previously the Director of Technical Affairs at Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA), and comes to QRail with an extensive background in managing large-scale urban planning and development projects in the fields of power generation and transmission of electric power. Eng. Al Mohannadi has 15 years of professional experience in the field.

The appointment of Eng. Al Mohannadi is the most recent step in the company’s development. In March 2011, Qatar Railways Company formed a Board of Directors chaired by Ghanem bin Saad Al Saad along with Sheikh Saud bin Nasser Al Thani, Vice Chairman of the Board. The company recently held a series of industry awareness events for leading local and international consultancy, advisory, construction and operations companies interested in participating in the Qatar Integrated Railways Project.

In creating Qatar’s much-anticipated state-of-the-art integrated railway network, the Qatar Railways Company will manage the development of the West Bay People Mover, Lusail City’s Light-Rail Transit system, and the integrated Qatar Railways Project, which will incorporate a metro system, long-distance passenger travel, and freight transport.
