Qatar Railways Company delegation visits Lusail City

Eng. Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Subaie led an official visit to Lusail City yesterday in a delegation that included Eng. Sultan Al-Anzi, Executive Vice President of Operations, Qatar Railways Development Company, Mr. Mohammed Hamad Al Khalifa, Office Manager of the Managing Director, Eng. Ahmed Al-Qabb, Lusail Light Rail Transit Project Director, Eng. Mohammed Al-Ishrafy, Project Manager, and Mr. Hassan Al-Saie, Director of Public Relations at Qatar Railways Company.

This visit comes as Al-Subaie assumes his new office at Qatar Railways Company. The delegation toured new construction developments at Lusail City, including underground tunnel works being undertaken at three sites. Construction of the Lusail Light Rail Transit System project is expected to be fully completed in the last quarter of 2015.

Eng. Abdullah Abdul Aziz Al-Subaie, Managing Director and Board Member at Qatar Railways Company commented: "The Lusail Light Rail Transit system is a core component of the state-of-the-art transportation infrastructure of Lusail City, one of the largest and most ambitious real estate development projects being undertaken in the Middle East and North Africa region."

The Lusail Light Rail Transit System is part of the Qatar Railway project, a $30-billion integrated railway system that will cover all major areas in the country and will consist of three transport modes: long distance, metro and freight. It will feature 30km of track, 7km of which are underground, 24 stations (seven of which are underground), service depots, and a viaduct.

Eng. Ahmed Al-Qabb, Lusail Light Rail Transit Project Director, stated: "The visit by Eng. Abdullah Abdul-Aziz Al-Subaiei, Managing Director and Board Member,at Qatar Railways Company, comes in recognition of continuing progress being made in the project’s development. These site visits will be ongoing as we proceed in the project’s development phases."

On April 6, 2011, Qatar Railways Company and Qatari Diar signed a 5-year contract with Parsons International and AECOM in New York at the Business and Investment in Qatar Forum. The signing was witnessed by Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabr Al Thani, Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ray LaHood, U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary, to manage the construction of the new Lusail Light Rail Transit system, and highlight the growing business and investment ties between Qatar and the United States.

Lusail City, which covers 38 km² north of Doha, is not only Qatar's largest domestic real estate project, but is one of the most prestigious community developments currently being undertaken in the region and the world at large.

Qatar Railways Company is a private and independent company, which follows independent procedures and laws according to internationally recognized standards. It was founded to support and coordinate the growth of Qatar's rail industry. In addition to securing the resources, personnel and organizational requirements necessary to ensure the rail sector's sustainability, Qatar Railways Company will also develop the appropriate legal and legislative frameworks to ensure that all local and international regulations and agreements are met. Moreover, Qatar Railways Company will oversee the management, operation and maintenance of all local railways and their associated administrative and industrial organizations, and lead coordination efforts with regional and international rail networks.

Qatar Railways Company is responsible for the development of three projects: The integrated Qatar Railways Project, which will incorporate a metro system, long-distance passenger travel, and freight transport, the West Bay People Mover, and Lusail City's Light-Rail Transit system.
